About Indus Air
Indus Airways had its first Operations as Northern Airways, operating out of the famous city of Lahore, in what is now West Punjab. The first aircraft Dakota flew in 1935, and was inducted in Northern Airways in 1943. In the short span of three years, Northern Airways built up a fleet of eight aircraft. The most traveled route was Lahore to Karachi.
In October 2005 it had been reported that "liquor baron" Kapil Mohan, of Mohan Meakins, along with other Indian businessmen, had invested in Indus Airways. They had plans to start services by the end of October 2005 using two Bombardier CRJ-200 aircraft leased from Lufthansa. These two CRJ-200LRs are ex Independence Air aircraft from the USA, N643BR and N644BR. Three more CRJ aircraft were expected by December and a fleet of 10 aircraft was planned, including three Boeing 737-800s and two Bombardier CRJ-700s.
